What to expect during your doctor's visit

It is very important that you visit your doctor at least once a year to make sure that you are healthy. However if you are sexually active, or have special health concerns, you may need to see your doctor more often.

During your annual visit, your PCP will:
  • Give you a medical exam.
  • Send you for lab tests, if needed.
  • Give you immunizations and other shots, if needed.
  • Provide any other health care you need at the time.
  • Discuss any health problems you have.
  • Give you important tips on how to stay healthy.
Your physical exam may include:
  • Checking your blood pressure, height and weight.
  • Checking your vision and hearing.
  • Checking to make sure that all your immunizations are up-to-date.
  • Checking to see if you need extra screening tests. If you are sexually active, additional tests and exams may be recommended.
Remember all screening tests are voluntary.

Your PCP can also fill out health forms needed to get a driver's license, attend college, go to camp, participate in sports, or for employment.
